Pioneering

Pioneering

Scouts at the District Scout Pioneer Weekend at Sherratts Wood building a bridge.

Pioneering is one of the most traditional and enjoyable Scouting based activities. It is all about using knots and lashes to create a structure using poles and rope.

Pioneering can be used for constructing small items such as camp gadgets up to larger structures such as bridges and towers. It can invoke hours of fun, from small projects to the very large.

Not only great fun, but pioneering is an excellent opportunity to teach team building, practical skills and problem solving.

The Cub, Scout and Explorer Programmes all have a Pioneer badge, which is a great way to inspire and reward young people to get involved in pioneering.

You don’t have to be an expert to pioneer, anyone can start with the core skills.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
