Lord Stafford Cup Camping Competition 2024
Scouts from across the District entered teams in the prestigious Lord Stafford Cup annual camping competition with Troops competing for the coveted Lord Stafford Cup Trophy, which dates back to the 1930s.
This is a challenging but fun weekend. Scouts have to be largely independent and need to be self-sufficient. Some leaders are on site, but they will not coordinate campsite set-up, cooking etc. Scouts will need to manage their time, activities and food themselves.
We were pleased to have Scouts from the 4th, 20th and 21st Scout Troops competing.
On Friday evening, Patrols constructed their campsites consisting of their sleeping tents, a store tent and dining shelter. All before some essential hot chocolate before bed.
Saturday morning started with cooking breakfast on fires or trangias, ahead of the first site inspection then lunch. In the afternoon, Scouts competed in a scavenger challenge prior to preparing their all-important evening meals, cooked on fires. Homemade dishes of spaghetti bolognese, chicken curry, roast dinner and jacket potatoes, all brilliantly prepared by the patrols for judging. In the evening, all the patrols came together, putting the competition to one side to enjoy a District campfire, complete with traditional songs and sketches.
Sunday saw the final breakfast and inspections before the points were collated and the winners announced.
Massive well done to the 4th Stafford Scout Troop Haggis Patrol for winning and the 20th Stafford Scout Troop Patrol for coming runners up. Both teams were brilliant, organised and demonstrated amazing Scouting Skills. This is a testament to your skills, teamwork and leadership, you’ve all made your leaders very proud.
Huge thanks to Lucie and her team for organising a great weekend and keeping the leaders well-fed.
We look forward to the 2025 competition and seeing the troops together again for the next Lord Stafford Cup.
