District Pioneer Badge Weekend 2024
Scouts from across the District came together to take part in the inaugural District Pioneer Badge Course Weekend. In this fun badge course, Scouts had the opportunity to learn the skills needed to build substantial structures using ropes and spars.
Enthusiastic Scouts constructed vast and impressive structures, including towers, bridges, swing boats and catapults as well as having time to marvel and enjoy playing on their structures. All after a crash course in essential knots, hitches and lashing for pioneering.
In keeping with the pioneer badge, Scouts carried out sail makers whipping, building a set of District ropes for lashings, as well as learning the traditional skill of a back splice.
Scouts from six troops across the town – 4th, 7th, 11th, 15th, 20th and 21st – attended, learning and honing skills for life.
The course was run by a team of leaders from the District – the pioneers team. By the end of the weekend, Scouts understood why some leaders get so excited about knotting and pioneering, and shared their enthusiasm.
Scouts camped in tents and enjoyed the most spectacular weather with warm sunshine throughout the weekend.
Huge thanks to Andy and his team of pioneers for organising the weekend, as well as Lucie and David for catering for everyone with amazing food.
The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we look forward to more pioneering events to come.
